OBITUARY

Thomas LeRoy Dinsdale was born on the family farm Jan. 31, 1911, the son of Thomas and Jennie (Fleming) Dinsdale. LeRoy was the seventh child in a family of thirteen who were all born in the Dinsdale home.

LeRoy received his education in country school and the Dinsdale Consolidated School.

On Jan. 16, 1935 LeRoy married Louise Kanipe of Traer and they lived five years on a family farm before moving to the parental farm in 1940.

Leroy inherited his love of livestock and the land from his father and grandfather and generally had a yard of feeding cattle on hand. He began farming during the Great Depression when corn sold for 10 cents a bushel, and was an accomplished corn husker; winning several contests in country district and state competitions.

In recent months LeRoy was in failing health, and his death came at the home of his birth on Saturday, Sept. 4, 1993 at the age of 82.

LeRoy was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son John; one grandson Chet; five brothers; Oscar, Loren, Floyd, Wilson, & Calvin; and four sisters; Matilda, Frances, Ella, & Arlene. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Louise, of Traer; three sons, Chester, of Strawberry Point; Richard and William of Reinbeck; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Judy) Benz of Lawler; one brother Marvin, of Traer; two sisters, Mildred Witt of Reinbeck; and Lydia Dinsdale of Des Moines, and twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
