James H. Schnoes Obituary
Coralville James H. Schnoes, 83, died Thursday, September 5th at Countryview Care Center in North Liberty surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am, Monday, September 9th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father John Spiegel officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill, Coralville, where a Vigil Service will be held at 5pm. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held Tuesday at 12:30pm at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the James Schnoes Memorial Fund. Jim was born April 23, 1930 in Granville, Iowa, the son of Edward Adam and Katherine Schlitche Schnoes. He graduated from Holy Name High School in Marcus, where he farmed with his family. Jim was proud to serve in the US Army from 1951-53 in Korea, Japan and Hawaii. On August 2, 1958 Jim married Mary Oswald in Marcus. They moved to the Iowa City where Jim was a well respected auto body repairman and mechanic. He was employed at McGurk-Meyers for over 30 years. Jim and Mary have been members of St. Mary’s Church for 51 years where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Jim was 51 year member of American Legion Post #721. Jim and Mary had been involved with Boy Scouts. Jim loved to bowl, fish, trap shoot, garden and landscape their home which they built in 1963. They loved to travel, especially trips to Europe and when they drove to Alaska. Survivors include his loving wife Mary and their three children, Steve (Tonya) of Woodland Park, CO, Mark (Diane) of Coralville and Susan (Kent) Christensen of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Paul, Stephanie, AJ, Claire, Ashley and Matthew.
