Muriel Karen Simm was born to Henry and Irene Kuiper on February 2, 1936 in Alton, Iowa. Muriel married Philip Simm, October 10, 1954. Her life was blessed with children, Terry (Dawn) Simm, Belinda (Scott) Lowry, Amy (Craig) Jorgensen, Matthew (Jill) Simm, honorary son, Steve (Sharla) Rupert and AFS son, Gheysika Agambila. Muriel’s family continued to grow with the addition of thirteen grandchildren – Sara, Scott, Samantha, Katie, Maureen, Tim, Alexandra, Holly, Leah, Kayla, Danielle, Grant, and Lauren.
Muriel had many passions but four stood out - Philip, family, farming and her faith. The loss of her dear Philip was devastating but she continued the Fillenwarth tradition in which the entire family gathered for a long weekend. The tradition continued for 17 years, until last year. She was an excellent cook and quick to provide a meal or a pan of bars when needed. Whether it be the smell of fresh cut alfalfa or the aroma from her garden flowers, she celebrated the bounty that God provided. Her love of Jesus was constant in all facets of her life. Muriel believed in actively living her faith and did so many times by anonymously helping people in need.
Muriel was a member of the Presbyterian Church, an ordained elder, and served as a Stephen Ministry leader, Sunday school teacher and helped with Youth Club. She was active on the Library and Theatre Board and was also a member of PEO.
Muriel was a loved wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother. She was so blessed with 29 “Greats” – Ellie, Brielle, Vivian, Evelynn, Vincent, Della, Bonnie, Ophelia, Madison, Averie, Andrew, Alayna, Oliver, Sonora, Dahlia, Hailey, Emma, Jordyn, Chloe, Lilly, Leona, Hannah, Braxton, Brock, Zane, Zoey, Aiden, Logan, and Beckett. She is survived by her brother Gordan (Lora Lee) Kuiper.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Irene (Ver Steeg) and husband, Philip Simm.
