BILL'S OBITUARY
William “Bill” Landegent, 95, formerly of Rock Valley, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Family will be present for visitation at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD from 3:00- 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Funeral services will be at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 with fellowship to follow.

Bill was born on October 27, 1928, in Rock Valley, Iowa to John and Johanna Landegent.

Bill married Alma Landegent on August 30, 1950. Together they worked the family farm in Rock Valley.

After retirement Bill happily enjoyed many hours working his vegetable garden (tomatoes love fish guts) and sharing his harvest with neighbors. He also passed the time playing pool at the Senior Center in Rock Valley and then later at Bethany Meadows. All who knew Bill, however, were aware his one great love, his passion, his dedication was to fish and his lifelong pursuit of catching them. Bill would spend every day fishing if he could. Winters found Bill and Alma living in a rustic cabin on Lake Okoboji where Bill could ice fish all winter long. Many family and friends bravely joined him in hopes of hooking a northern. Summers usually found Bill at his Lake Pahoja in a little aluminum boat fishing for hours.

Bill loved fishing so much it took him on trips all over the country and even to Canada and Mexico with his family. His children and grandchildren are certain he was greeted at the pearly gates with a smile and a rod.

Grateful for sharing Bills’s life are his children Susan Nordby (Jan), Scott Landegent (Rita); grandchildren Alison Elliott, Brian Nordby (Laura), Phil Landegent (Erin), Caija West (Logan) and his step-grandson Keygan Bogenhagen; his great-grandchildren Graham, Elise, Mason, Madelyn, Mathious, Wilder, Belle and Fiia; beloved sister Kay Van Otterloo, Aldwin Lorica and numerous brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alma Landegent, his son Bruce Landegent, his infant son Wayne, his brother’s Hupe, Case, John and Adrian and his sister’s Helen, and Johanna.

In memory of Bill Landegent, if you are so inclined, the family requests that donations be made to Lyon County Conservation Foundation (Lake Pahoja) in lieu of flowers.
