Attend Brothers Funeral

Phillip Pronk of Leota, Minn., died at the hospital in Pipestone last week. Funeral services were held Monday of this week. He is survived by his wife and six children. His brothers, William and John Pronk from here attended the last rites, also Mrs. Henry Draayer, sister of the deceased. Phillip Pronk moved from Hospers about thirty years ago, to Leota where he was in the produce business for the last several years.

Saturday Philip Pronk of Leota died at age 74-1/2. The last three months he has struggled a lot, and also in the Pipestone hospital. Funeral service in Leota.

W. Vander Kamp, Mrs. D. Wesselink and Mrs. M. VanderKamp attended the funeral services of their brother-in-law and uncle, Phillip Pronk, which were held at Leota, Minn., last Tuesday.

Minnesota death certificate 1940-MN-012225 (informant Titus Pronk) has Philip Pronk, resident of Leota, Minn.; wife Gertie Van Der Kamp; born March 29, 1866 in the Netherlands; parents Henry Pronk and Ida Oorlog; in the U.S. 55 years and Pipestone 2 months; a retired cream buyer; died in the Ashton Memorial Hospital, Pipestone, at 5:20 October 12, 1940; cause, perineal abscess, duration 1 month; contributory cause, stricture of urethra, duration 4 years.

His FindaGrave.com page has Philip (Filippus) Pronk, born 30 Mar 1866 in Stadskanaal, Groningen, Netherlands; died 12 Oct 1940 in Leota, Nobles County, Minn.; buried in Leota Cemetery. There is a photo of his headstone, showing his name as Philip Pronk and his birth date as March 29, 1866. Parents Hendrik Pronk (1837-1908) and Ida Oorlog Pronk (1837-1906), both buried in Clear Lake, Dueul County, SD. Four siblings listed. Wife Gerritje Van Der Kamp Pronk (1872-1948). Children: Titus Pronk (1892-1962), Henry Pronk (1892-1990), Walter Pronk (1899-1991), Ida Pronk Van Peursem (1902-1991), Elsie Pronk (19080-1994), Jake M. Pronk (1911-1991).

The 1900 U.S. census shows the Pronk family living in Hospers: Philip (34), Gerritje (27), and sons Henry (8), Titus (7), and Walter (5/6). Philip immigrated in 1885, is naturalized, and works as a teamster. In the 1905 census they are still in Hospers; his name is rendered as Filippus. The 1910 census shows Phillip, Girtie and family farming in Osborn Township, Pipestone County, Minn.; his immigration year is given as 1882. In 1920 they are farming in Leota. In 1930 Philip is manager of a cream station in Leota; his immigration year is given as 1895. In 1940 Phillip and his son Titus are proprietors of a cream station; his wife’s name is given as Hattie.
