From the Sioux County Capital, October 31, 1940:

BOER INFANT

Mr. and Mrs. John Boer of near Maurice mourn the loss of their first born. The infant was born in the Hull hospital Sunday night Oct. 20 near midnight and passed away eleven hours later. Short services were conducted in the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Clarebout Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. H. Douwstra. Burial was in the Hope cemetery. Mrs. Boer was the former Wilma Clarebout and Mr. Boer is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Boer near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Boer, Arlyn W., 21 Oct 1940, son of Mr. & Mrs. John, Hope Cem Hull IA.

His death certificate (informant William Claerbout) has Arlon William Boer, born October 21, 1940 in Hull, Iowa; parents John Boer, born in Iowa, and Wilma Claerbout, born in Hull; died at 8[?] a.m. October 22, 1940, age 11 hours; cause, dystocia [difficult or obstructed labor], due to mal position of child and small pelvis of mother.

There is also a birth certificate for him: Arlyn William Boer; father John A. Boer, age 27, born in Sheldon, Iowa, a farmer; mother Wilma Claerbout, age 23, born in Hull, residing in rural Maurice; born October 21, 1940 in the Hull Hospital after a 9-month pregnancy, her first child.

His FindaGrave.com page has Arlyn W. Boer, born 20 Oct. 1940 and died 21 Oct 1940 in Hull; buried in Hope Cemetery. But it gives his parents as John Boer (1901-1988) and Frances Hoekstra Boer (1902-2003) and shows an older sibling, Marten Boer (1932-1960), none of which match the obituary or the birth and death certificates.

The 1940 U.S. census shows John Boer (26) and wife Wilma (23) farming in Center Township, Sioux County [near Maurice].
