From the Rock Valley Bee, October 25, 1940:

Mrs. Kramer Dies Monday—Funeral On This Thursday

Mrs. Vernon Kramer, 25, residing 8 miles north and one-half mile east of Rock Valley, died at her home Monday night following an illness of three weeks with infantile paralysis. She had been thought getting along nicely and was brought home from the Sioux City hospital where she had been in an iron lung since about the first of the month, Sunday. A trained nurse accompanied her home here and was in constant attendance. While taking some food Monday night, however, she choked and in spite of all that medical skill could do she passed on.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Persoon, Mrs. Kramer is survived by her husband and a small son and daughter, aged 1½ and 3 years. The Kramers were married about four years ago and the death of the mother is a hard blow. She was born on June 30, 1915.

Funeral services are being held this Thursday morning at St. Mary’s church in Alvord where interment will take place. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Her death certificate (informant Vernon Kramer) has Loretta Persoon Kramer, wife of Vernon Kramer; resident of rural Alvord, 2 miles south and ½ mile east; resident of the area 12 years; born June 30, 1915 in Larchwood, Iowa; parents Henry Persoon, born in the Netherlands, and Velesa Ver Lynde, born in Belgium; died at 11:30 p.m. October 21, 1940; cause, infantile paralysis with paralysis of inter costal muscles [the muscles between the ribs], duration 4 weeks; 3 weeks at St. Joseph Hospital, Sioux City; buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Alvord.

Her marriage record shows groom John Vernon Kramer, age 31 next birthday, resident of Doon, a farmer, born in Doon, parents Jh[?] Kramer and Anna Kelly, nationality German; bride Loretta Mary Persoon, age 22 next birthday, resident of Alvord, born in Larchwood, Iowa, parents Henry Persoon and Phylis Verlinde, nationality Hollander; married September 8, 1936 in Alvord.
