Mrs. Clara Adler Funeral

Mrs. Clara Adler, 79, of Howard, S.D. died Monday, March 5 at Madison Community Hospital after being ill for some time.

Clara Schnee was born Oct. 13, 1893 to Mr. and Mrs. William Schnee of Alton, Iowa. On Nov. 30, 1916, she married George Adler of Le Mars, Iowa. They moved to Howard in 1920 and farmed in the Howard area. He died in 1940. She had made her home at the Howard Good Samaritan Home since August of 1970.

Mrs. Adler was recorder for Royal Neighbors of America for 35 years. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Civil League and Gray Ladies and was active in church affairs of St. Agatha Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Lee and Don, both of Howard; four daughters, Mrs. DeWayne (Lorraine) Moeller of Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. LeRoy (Ethel) Bohr of Howard, Mrs. Ralph (Audrey) Richardson, Madison, and Mrs. Bill (Gloria) Chaney, Charleston Heights, S.C.; a brother and six sisters; 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Her FindaGrave.com page adds her burial place, Saint Josephs Cemetery, Howard, Miner County, S.D., with a photo of the joint headstone of George and Clara (showing her as Clara C.); his life dates: George Edward Adler (1890-1940); her parents, William Francis Schnee (1870-1944) and Anna Mary Henrich Schnee (1872-1957); seven siblings; four children: Leland George Adler (1919-2011), Ethel Jean Adler Bohr (1920-2019), Audrey Joan Adler Richardson (1922-1983), and Donald Claire Adler (1924-2011). An unascribed added note includes the other two: Lorraine Adler Moeller and Gloria Adler Chaney.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1916/1917 has groom George E. Adler, age 27, a farmer, resident of Hospers, nationality German, born in LeMars, parents Christ Adler and Anna Gronow; bride Clara C. Schnee, age 24, resident of Alton, nationality German, born in Alton, parents Wm. Schnee and Anna Henrich; married in Alton Nov. 30, 1916.
