From the Sioux Center News, January 10, 1935:

Mrs. E. Vander Ziel Laid to Rest Tuesday

Mrs. Egbert Vander Ziel died suddenly early Saturday morning after only three days illness. The cause of her death was pleurisy and high blood pressure.

Mr. and Mrs. Vander Ziel were to have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary March 19. Only two couples in Sioux Center had been married longer than they.

Mrs. Vander Ziel was born in Kampen-Eiland, Netherlands, She married in 1874 and lived in the Netherlands until 1908. While living in the Netherlands six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vander Ziel, three of whom are still living. They are Jacob Vander Ziel of Hanford Calif., Al Vander Ziel of Chicago, and Elizabeth Vander Ziel of Sioux Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Vander Ziel immigrated to America in 1908, settling in Sioux Center as soon as they reached this country. Here Mr. Vander Ziel followed the same work he had been doing in the Netherlands when he became street commissioner. He retired in 1922 on account of poor health.

Besides her widow[er] and three children, Mrs. Vander Ziel is survived by sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grand children.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home and at the 2nd Christian Reformed Church. Rev. L. Ypma had charge of the services. Mr. and Mrs. Al Vander Ziel of Chicago and John Vander Ziel, a grandson, of Hanford Cal., were here to attend the rites.
