From the Alton Democrat, May 17, 1940:

Mat Fisch, early Granville resident, passed on at Iowa City Friday from pneumonia, at the age of 68 years. For 40 years he operated a dray line at Granville, where he was a well known and useful citizen.

He was born in Wisconsin in May, 1872. His parents, Jacob and Anna Fisch, were pioneers of the Granville community. He was a bachelor.

Sisters surviving are Mrs. Sidney Tanton (Lena) of Jamestown, N.D.; Mrs. John Karhoff (Anna) of Douglas, N.D.; Mrs. F. F. Probst (Emma) of Parshall, N.D.; Mrs. Richard Probst (Ida), Camden, Wis.; Mrs. Art Knight (Margaret) of Crawford, Colo; Zeta, Miami Beach Fla. One brother, Theodore, of Minneapolis, survives; two, John and Frank, have passed on.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church, Granville, Monday morning with Rev. J. A. Gerleman officiating and interment was in the parish cemetery beside his parents. Out of town relatives attending were Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Fisch of Minneapolis, Gerald Fisch of Rock Rapids. Pallbearers were Nick Neuroth, Dr. A. J. Miller; Jake Kraus, Ray Bussenmus, Tony Kokenge and Mat Perlot.

His death certificate (informant L. R. Diers) has him as Matt Fisch, age 68, single, born May 1872 in Wisconsin; parents Jacob Fisch, born in Europe, and Anna Bigler, born in Germany.; usual residence Granville; occupation, retired drayman; died in University Hospital, Iowa City, where he had been for 8 days, at 12 p.m. May 10, 1940; cause of death, epidemoid carcinoma R face, duration 6 years?, cellulitis of Rt face & neck, duration 2 weeks, and broncho pneumonia, duration 1 week.

His FindaGrave.com page gives his name as Mathias H. “Matt” Fisch, although the photo of his headstone that is included shows him as Matt Fisch; parents Jacob Fisch (1844-1918) and Anna Biegler Fisch (1849-1933).

U.S. and Iowa state census records variously list him as Matt Fisch, Matt H. Fisch, Mathias H. Fisch, or Mathew Fisch.
