1880 census of Holland Tsp Sioux County Lists G. H. Haverkamp age 52, a wheel right, born Holland, wife Harriet age 39 a Milliner born Holland, children Hattie 18, Bertha 15, Anna 12 and Jacob 5, all born Iowa.

Orange City is now afflicted with the dreadful disease of Smallpox. It has now spread into five different families, the pest is in the families of G. H. Haverkamp, seven cases and one death; ….etc.

The family of G. H. Haverkamp, all the members of which have been confined to their beds for two weeks past, are now convalescing, and we hope to soon see them at their wonted vocations.
