From the Hawarden Independent, April 18, 1940:

Death Calls Former Resident

Dick Hussman, a former resident of this vicinity, passed away at Seiling, Okla., last Friday at the advanced age of 77 years. Funeral services were held at Seiling Sunday and interment was at that place. Mr. Hussman was a prominent citizen in Eagle township in the late eighties but more recently resided in Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife and several grown sons. Mrs. Hussman was a sister of the late Mrs. Mike Johnson of Ireton. He was a brother of Mrs. Henry Croon of Craig, an uncle of Dave Johnson of Hawarden, and a cousin of Mrs. John Albers of Alcester.

Former Ireton Citizen Called

Word was received here of the death of Dick Hussman of Sieling, Okla., a former resident of this community, who died last Friday at the age of 77 years. Mr. Hussman formerly resided in Eagle township, moving to Oklahoma some years ago. He is survived by several nieces and nephews in this vicinity. Funeral services were held at Sieling and interment took place there.

His FindaGrave.com page has Dick Henry Husman, born 29 March 1863 in Bear Creek Township, Christian County, Illinois; died 12 April 1940 in Seiling, Dewey County, Oklahoma, buried in Brumfield Cemetery. There is a photo of his headstone, surname spelled Husman. An added note (unattributed) says he was the son of Dick H. Hussman and Elizabeth Groenewald. Married Alice Engle on 16 March 1884 in Christian County, and to this union five children were born: Richard, Mary, George, Clarence and Theodore.

Illinois marriage indexes or marriage summaries [no images available] on Ancestry.com show him (called Dick Husmon or Deck Husmon) marrying Aline Ingle in Christian County on 1 March 1884.

Birth record indexes on Ancestry.com for his children call him Richard Husman and his wife Alice Engle.

The 1900 U.S. census for Willow Lake Township, Brule County, S.D. has Henry Husman (37), born March 1863 in Illinois, parents born in Germany, married 16 years; wife Alice (34), born in Iowa, mother of four children, all living; children Richard (14), Mary L. (10), George D. (5), all born in Iowa, and Clarence (3), born in South Dakota.

The 1920 census for Presho City, Lyman County, S.D. has Dick Husman (57), a hotel keeper; wife Alice (54), son Pearl[?] (17), and grandchildren Alice (9), Lowell (7) and Sylvia (5) Gast, all born in South Dakota. In 1930 Duick H. Huishman (67), wife Alice (64) and the three grandchildren are living in Seiling, Oklahoma, where he is the manager of a grocery[?] store. In 1940 he and Alice are still in Seiling; his name is given as Dick H. Husman, no occupation.

It is unclear from readily available online records when he lived in Sioux County, although the Alton Democrat notes a couple of real estate transactions involving an H. R. Husman and wife in 1890.
