His FindaGrave.com page has him as Peter De Young, born 1885, died 1956, buried in Eden Cemetery, Hudson, Lincoln County, South Dakota; spouse Effie DeYoung (1887-1940); one son listed: Pete DeYoung (1917-1940). There is a photo of his headstone.

His entries in U.S. census records all call him Peter or Pete De Young. The 1910 census for Virginia township, Union County, South Dakota has Peter (25) and Effie (23) De Young, married 1 year, both born in Holland and immigrated in 1909, and their son Rudolph (7/12), born in Iowa; Peter is a farm laborer.

The 1920 census shows the De Young family in Rock Valley: Pete (34), Effie (32), children Rudolph (10), Tena (6), and Peter (2-2/12), all born in Iowa, and Pete’s brother-in-law Henry Weidema (28), who immigrated from Holland in 1911. Pete and Henry are farm laborers.

In 1930 the De Young family is in Alcester Township, Union County, South Dakota: Peter (45), Effie (43), children Rudolph (20), Tena (16), Peter J. (12), Pearl R. (9), Mary (4-6/12), all born in Iowa, and Richard H. (9/12), born in South Dakota. Peter is a farmer, renting his farm.

In 1940 (April) they are living in Garfield Township, Lyon County. Peter (55) is a farm operator, renting his farm, listed as married although his wife had died a couple of months previous; children Pearl (19), Mary (14), Richard (10), and Sidney (8, born in Iowa). Rudolph De Young (30) and his family are listed as a separate household right underneath; Rudolph is a farm laborer, likely on his father’s farm.

The 1925 Iowa state census for Settlers Township, Sioux County has Peter De Young (40) and Aafke Veidema (37) and children; his parents are given as R. De Young and Pietytje[?] Vlietstra.

WieWasWie.nl has a birth index record for Popke De Jong, born 29 January in Franeker, Friesland, parents Ruurd de Jong and Pietje Vlietstra.

It appears that he and Effie married right after coming to Iowa. The Sioux County marriage register for 1909/1910 has groom Popke de Jong, age 24, a Hollander, residence Sioux Center, a farmer, parents Ruward de Jong and Pietje Blutstra; bride Afke Wiedema, age 23, a Hollander, residence Sioux Center, parents Remce Wiedema and Tryntje Vienstra; married in Orange City July 8, 1909. No marriage record for them was readily located on WieWasWie.nl.
