From the Alton Democrat, March 8, 1940, Rock Valley news:

Arlen Gene, the 3-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Canneigaiter, passed away Friday after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at the Christian Ref. church on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. John Triezenburg. Burial was made in Valley View cemetery. The child leaves its parents, one brother and three sisters to mourn. They have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Cannegieter, Arler[sic] Gene, b. 1939, d. 1940, son of Mr. & Mrs. Jake, ss John Peter, Valley View Rock Valley.

His death certificate has Arlen Gene Cannegieter, age 2 months 29 days; born Dec. 2, 1939 in Rock Valley; parents John Cannegieter, born in Royal, Nebraska, and Cora Ver Burg, born in Rock Valley; died at 3:15 a.m. February 29, 1940; immediate cause of death, “don’t know”; due to acute intoxication due to stasis of the intestines with massive accumulation of feces, no signs of obstruction.

His FindaGrave.com page shows his parents as Jacob Cannegieter (1906-1970) and Cornelia Ver Burg Cannegieter (1909-1989); siblings John Peter Cannegieter (1930-1933) and Donald M. Cannegieter (1931-2019). There is a photo of the joint headstone of Arlen Gene and John Peter.
