Mat Bruhn a young man about 21 years old, was drowned in the Rock River seven miles north of here on the 18th, while endeavoring to recue Ed. Christiansen, who works for H. C. Peterson. Christiansen had gone out in a boat to try and save some stock, when it capsized, but he swam to a tree and saved himself. A wagon box was then launched with a long rope and some wire attached and Bruhn went out in it to get Christainsen from his perilous position. When the box got well into the current the rope either broke or was cut by the wire. As soon as Bruhn found he was unable to control the box he became frightened and jumped out of the box into the water and was drowned before help could reach him. His body was found Sunday, four days after the accident and the funeral services were held in this city Monday.
