Mina met her husband Melvin Mouw while attending Carmel Reformed Church. They were united in marriage at the home of her parents on Sept. 4, 1945, with their parents and siblings in attendance. Two days later, Melv was called to serve his country in the US Army in Japan. Upon Melv's return 1 ½ years later, they made their home in Carmel. After one year, they moved to the Mouw family homestead located 1 ½ miles west of Sioux Center and continued to live there for 35 years. They became members of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Melv & Mina decided to build a new home across from the farm where Mina lived for 30 years.
