Goldie Colenbrander, age 106, of Sioux Center, IA passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

A Funeral Service will be at 10:30AM, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Stephen Breen officiating. Interment will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Visitation will be 4-7 P.M. Friday, January 14, 2022, with family present from 6-7 P.M. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Goldie Colenbrander, 106 years, died Saturday, January 8, at the Crown Pointe Care Center in Sioux Center. Service will be held Saturday, January 15 at 10:30 am in the First Reformed Church with Pastor Steve Breen officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 pm at the Memorial Funeral Home, with some family present from 6-7 pm. The family prefers memorials be directed to ‘Katelynn’s Fund’, ‘Sioux Center Christian School’ or the ‘Sioux City Gospel Mission’.

Goldie (Kuiken) Colenbrander was born October 15, 1915, to Frank and Mary Kuiken on a farm northeast of Maurice. When she was nine years, Goldie’s family moved to an 80-acre farm on the edge of Sioux Center-at least, it was on the edge of Sioux Center ‘back then’. It was where the Kinsey School is now. She would walk or roller skate to school- the school was where the Public Library now exists. Goldie finished 8 years of education.

After dating for three years, Goldie married Arie Colenbrander on January 14, 1936, which was also Arie’s birthday. The couple lived on a farm four miles north of Sioux Center. The same year, Sioux County had many, many feet of snow. The flakes had already been falling on their wedding day, so they spent seven weeks at home. After eight years of marriage, in March of 1944, they welcomed a three-month old daughter, originally named Nancy, born at the Sioux City Crittenton Home for adoption. Arie and Goldie named their new baby, Esther Ruth. (now Esther Schelling).

The couple retired from farming and moved into Sioux Center in 1975. Arie passed away in May of 2000, after which Goldie lived in their own home for several years before moving to the Regency, later to Crown Pointe and finally to Crown Pointe Care Center in 2019.

Goldie crocheted dozens of mittens and scarves, to be donated to Melissa’s Hope Chest. She loved to embroider, fix puzzles, read and enjoyed her “Iowa” magazine.

Those left to cherish her memory: daughter Esther and husband C.J. Schelling. Granddaughters: Renita (Jim) Maassen, Pamela Schelling and Rebekah (Kyle) Rozeboom. Six great grandchildren: Kadin, Tavian, and Aislin Maassen, Faith, Tytan and Nevaeh Rozeboom. Sister-in-law, Wanda (Bud) Kuiken of Maurice.

Preceding her in death, husband Arie, parents, an infant great grandson (Logan James Maassen). Sisters, Margaret (Ed) Dykshorn, Wilma (Howard) Ruisch, Brother, Dave (Edith) Kuiken, Twin brothers, Orville (Harriett)Kuiken, and Stanley (Ruth)Kuiken and brother, Wilson (Bud) Kuiken, twin of Wilma.
