IRETON, IOWA – Lorraine M. Wells, 96, of Ireton, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital.

Public viewing, with no family present, will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. Due to the current COVD-19 situation, private family funeral service will be Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton with Rev. Joshua Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Lorraine Mary Johnson was born March 29, 1925 on a farm south of Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Moeller) Johnson. She attended school near Rock Valley until age 7, when her family moved north of Ireton, Iowa. She attended country school there and graduated from Ireton High School. She played for the Ireton Golden Eagles Girls Softball Team for four years and participated in 4H.
On November 15, 1943 Lorraine married Willis Wells at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton. To this union 2 sons were born: Larry and Mark. Lorraine loved the outdoors and worked whenever she could with Willis on the farm. She also enjoyed working on her yard, flowers, and garden up until her death.
Lorraine loved the Lord and served on Altar Guild, was a charter member of Lutheran Women’s League, taught Sunday School, was a youth counselor, taught bible class, baked cookies for Mission Central in Mapleton, Iowa, and made many stocking caps that decorated a church Christmas tree and was given to families in need. She volunteered at the Hawarden Thrift Store for several years and then for Hope Haven sewing carrier bags for the refurbished wheelchairs.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Mark (Julia) Wells; 2 granddaughters, Sarah (Brady) Baan Hofman and Megan (Kosta) Sengos; 5 great-grandchildren, Dakota, Hunter, and Montana Baan Hofman and Mia and Melina Sengos; a sister, Phyllis Heuer; sister-in-law, Vivian Johnson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Wells; son, Larry Wells; father, Frederick Johnson; mother, Elizabeth Moeller Johnson; brother, Roland Johnson; and brother-in-law, Clarence Heuer.
