Van Peursem. David Lee 1931-2021

Mr. David Van Peursem, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, March 29, at 11:00am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. John Klompien will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

David Lee was born on October 3, 1931, in Maurice, the son of Chester and Gertrude (Boonstra) Van Peursem. He grew up in Maurice and attended the Maurice High School, where he played basketball. Following his graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage to Joan Minerva De Beer on June 13, 1955, in Orange City. They made their home in Alton for a short time before settling in Orange City, where they raised their family. David worked for Vogel and Vande Brake as a painter before becoming a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. In retirement, Dave and Minerva enjoyed traveling together, especially to visit their grandchildren. Minerva passed away on November 14, 2013, in Sioux City, after more than 58 years of marriage.

Mr. Van Peursem was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as an elder and a deacon, as well as the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He also had volunteered with the local Meals on Wheels program and with Justice for All, and in earlier years as part of the Orange City Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his two children and their spouses, Diane and Glen Broek, of Sioux Center; and Robert and Kathryn Van Peursem, of Huntsville, Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Van Peursem, of Zeeland, Michigan; five grandchildren, Lindsey Marie Broek; Megan, and her husband, Levi Bruins; Emily Schab; Ross Van Peursem, and his wife, Sonja; and Laura, and her husband, Alex Kofskey; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Easton, Macy, Ollie, and Lorenzo; a sister, Helen Kalsbeek; a sister-in-law, Jo Van Peursem; Minerva’s siblings, Darlene Vander Aarde; Marilyn, and her husband, Kermit Hoffs; Ruth Wilson; Laura Peuse; John De Beer, and his wife, Mona Baumgartel; and a sister-in-law, Lois De Beer.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith Van Peursem; a brother, Howard Van Peursem; a brother-in-law, Art Kalsbeek; Minerva’s brothers, Fred De Beer and Peter De Beer; and her brothers-in-law, Stanley Vander Aarde, Jack Wilson, and Duane Peuse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post.
