Van't Hul, Robert 1938-2021

Mr. Robert Van’t Hul, age 82, of Hull, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021, at his residence.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, February 26, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Jeffrey Hastings will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Robert Lee was born on May 31, 1938, in Hull, the son of Ed and Francis (Vande Vegte) Van’t Hul. He was raised in Hull and Rock Valley and graduated from the Western Christian High School in Hull.

He was united in marriage to Corrine Marlene Vollink on May 26, 1959, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home in Hull, where “Whitey” worked as an electrician and operated Van’t Hul and Sohl Electric. In earlier years, he served as part of the National Guard and volunteered with the Hull Fire Department and Ambulance Team for more than forty years.

Bob was a member of the First Reformed Church and had been a member of Gideons International. He and Corrine enjoyed their time at the lake where Bob had served as president of their homeowner’s association. He also liked to tinker in his shop with engines, cars, and tractors, and creating stained glass windows. He valued the time he spent with his family and found joy in helping others through volunteering at Hope Haven’s wheelchair ministry, going on mission projects to Haiti and Mexico, and helping at the Way of the Cross Ministries while wintering in Texas.

Survivors include his wife of more than 61 years, Corrine, of Hull; a daughter and her husband, Carla and Leon Kleinwolterink, of Sheldon; six grandchildren, Nathan Van’t Hul, and his wife, Pam, and their son, Xor, of Hull; Cole Kleinwolterink, and his wife, Tessa, and their son, Ryker, of Grimes; Cris Nissen, and his wife, Amber, and their children, Makhala, Ariana, and Brooke, of Hull; Zach Kleinwolterink, and his fiancé, Leticia Flores, of Sheldon; Tanner Nissen, of Hull; and Samantha Kleinwolterink, and her fiancé, Jerod Reinking, of Sheldon; a sister and her husband, Muriel and Peter Den Hartog, of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Marvin and Myrna Van’t Hul, of Hull; Corrine’s five brothers and their wives, Tunis and Fran Vollink, of Hull; Fred and Glenda Vollink, of Le Mars; Gary and Deb Vollink, of Hull; Harold and Gail Vollink, of Doon; and Veryl and Lena Vollink, of Hull; a sister-in-law, Carol Reekers, of Hull; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and parents-in-law, Fred and Henrietta Vollink, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Nissen; a brother, Norman Van’t Hul; a brother-in-law, Harlon Vollink; a niece, Christy Vollink, and a nephew, Barry Vollink.

Memorials may be directed to the First Reformed Church or the Hull Fire Department.
