Translated:
Today Wednesday morning, after a short-term illness Mr. John R. Brinks. Verl. Week Friday the deceased was still working in his store. He seemed to catch a cold there, which developed into pneumonia, to which was added a weak heart. Already on Saturday the situation was so bad that a nurse was summoned. One daughter at home.
Mr. Brinks reached the age of 65 and is survived by two daughters, Anna and Mrs. Royce in California. The sudden death is a hard blow, especially for the home doctor. The town also loses in Mrs. Brinks an honorable citizen. He served the town as a council man for many years and was very respected, because of his sound judgment, his calm nature and friendly character. Although his path of life has always left no path to finding a path to pioneer life in the West, no one has ever known him otherwise as the friendly figure as he lived among us for Years, as a hardware man or plumber.
Since the family lives far away, no arrangement could yet be made for the burial.

Councilman J. R. Brinks Called Home
Death Claims Well Loved S. C. Citizen After Brief Illness
John R. Brinks one of the pioneer business men of Sioux Center and for fifteen years a member of the town council, passed away Wednesday after a short illness, pneumonia and heart trouble causing his death. All places of business were closed Saturday afternoon during the funeral services which were held at the First Chr. Ref. Church, Rev. Schaas in charge. Members of the council acted as pallbearers.
Mr. Brinks came of a pioneer family, his father Roelof Brinks having been one of the early settlers north west of Orange City. He lived for some years at Harrison, S. D. and established a plumbing business in Sioux Center about 25 years ago. His integrity, kindness and lovable character endeared him to many and his colleagues of the council and numberless friends in the community deeply regret his passing and sympathize with the two daughter who survive. Mrs. Brinks passed on several years ago. A daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Royce lives in California and was not able to dome for the funeral. The other daughter Miss Anna, who lived at home, has gone to Orange City for a visit at the home of her uncle, L. L. Van Pelt .
