Translated:
Saturday morning at seven o'clock Mr. Henry De Groot Sr. at the age of 73 years and 5 months after a long period of disablement. The deceased had lived in town for the last 17 years and was ailing all that time; the last 10 years he was completely helpless, but was faithfully cared for by his wife. The De Groot family has lived on the farm for years around the Sioux Center. Ten children were born of marriage: Henry at Edgerton, Abraham here, Cornelis, Edgerton, John Hull; Gerrit Greenfield, IA; Herman and William at Middleburg, Mrs. Chris Schiebout over here, Mrs. H. Schiebout, Ireton, and Mrs. Gertrude Nelson Omaha. It was the wish of the deceased that his sons should carry him to the grave. Besides wife and children and many grandchildren, the deceased is mourned by two sisters: Mrs. E. Sneller and Mrs. Dries Bosch and a brother, Mr. John De Groot. The funeral took place on Tuesday with a service in the First Chr. Ref. Church under the direction of Rev. Hylkema.
