Tuesday died here in the blessed old age of 81 years, 10 months and 24 days Mr. D. Van den Bos. This afternoon at 2 o'clock a service is held in the Chr. Reformed Church of which the deceased was a member, after which the remains will be transported to Harrison, SD., And buried there.
Mr. D. Van den Bos was born in 1836, in South Holland, the Netherlands, and came to America with his parents at the age of 14, where they settled in Pella. He lived here for 20 years and operated a sawmill for part of that time. He was one of the first to call Sioux Co. visited. Later he had a hardware store in Orange City. He was one of the pioneers of the Holland colony in Douglas Co. SD., Where he was postmaster at Harrison, and where he lived for 20 years. Here his first wife Johanna De Velder died, with whom he was married in Pella, she was a sister of Mrs. Johannes Klein here and their marriage was very happy. Then he came to Sioux Center, where he married the widow Verduyn 15 years ago, who was about his age. The two oldies had a very happy married life here, and although they had not imposed any treasures, they had enough for a carefree old man to be happy and contented, and that is, after all, the true wealth. His children lose in him a life having a father and his already 82 year old widow a loved one true friend.

His wife was Johanna Catharina de Velder born 28 Dec 1835 Bleiswijk Zuid Holland Neth. Died 8 Feb 1900 Harrison SD. Children – Adrianna 1855-1855, Cornelius 1859-1937, John 1864-1932, Maria Van Roekel 1866-1893, Adrianna Janie Van den Brink 1869-1944, William 1872-1947, Jacob 1873-1937, and Issac 1876-1952.
