From the Hawarden Independent, January 6, 2000:

Cameron C. Callan, 88, of St. Cloud, Minn., died Dec. 31, 1999, at St. Benedict’s Care Center. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, St. Cloud. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud. Williams Funeral Home in St. Cloud was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Cameron C. Callan was born Nov. 9, 1911, in Hawarden, to Michael and Catherine (Burke) Callan. He married Bernice A. Goecke on July 17, 1939 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshaltown, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 11, 1984, after 45 years of marriage.

The Callans moved to St. Cloud in 1959. He was employed by the Gamble-Skogmo Company for 35 years where he managed the St. Cloud Tempo Store. In 1969, he founded Callan’s Furniture. He was a member of the St. Cloud Rotary Club and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #961, and a former member of the Elks.

Survivors include his children, Mary Berg of Madison, WI, Cammie Farrell of Hastings, Minn., Tim of St. Cloud, Jim of Waite Park, Minn., 12 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

A largely similar obituary in the St. Cloud Times, January 2, 2000, adds that he was preceded in death by sisters and brothers Helen Crowder, Ann Gregerson, Gene, and Bill. It includes a photo of him.

FindaGrave.com gives his birth year as 1911 and adds his parents’ full names, Michael C. Callan (1868-1949) and Catherine M. Burke Callan (1876-1960); one sister, Helen Catherine Callan Crowder (1906-1937); wife Bernice Goecke Callan (1916-1984, married 1939); a photo of the joint headstone of Cameron and Bernice; and a copy of the St. Cloud Times obituary.

His Minnesota death certificate (no. 1999-MN-038584) also gives his birth year as 1911 and adds his education, 12th grade; occupation, furniture store owner; St. Cloud address, 1810 Minnesota Boulevard; cause of death, pneumonia; contributory condition, Parkinson’s disease.

His World War II draft card (Oct. 1940) gives his full name, Cameron Charles Callan; residence 1522 N. West, Carroll, Iowa; age 28, born Nov. 9, 1912 in Hawarden; wife Mrs. Bernice Callan; employment, salesman, Gamble Store; 5 feet 10 inches, 168 pounds, brown eyes, black hair, dark complexion.
