From the Chino Champion (Chino, California), September 29, 1972:

Mrs. Jennie Buma, a former Chino resident, died on her birthday, September 5. She was 83. She was born in Iowa in 1889, resided in the Artesia-Bellflower area since 1928, and in Chino from 1948-1954. She lived at the Bethany Christian Home, Rejon, California, when she died.

Mrs. Buma is survived by a son, Walter of Paramount; sisters [i.e., daughters] Mrs. Agnes Bylsma of La Palma, Mrs. Ada Veenstra and Mrs. Helen Westra of Rejon, Mrs. Peter Rienstra and Mrs. Susianna Smits of Modesto, and Mrs. Clara Sonke of Chino. She had 37 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 7 at Rejon Memorial Chapel and the De Jong Artesia Mortuary. She is buried at Artesia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Artesia Home of the Aged, 11614 183rd Street, Artesia.

No obituary was located in Sioux County newspapers.

Her FindaGrave.com page shows Jennie Post Buma, born 5 Sep 1889 in Iowa; died 5 Sep 1972 in San Joaquin County, California; buried in Artesia Cemetery, Cerritos, Los Angeles County. Spouse Adam Buma (1882-1938). Two children listed: Tracy Buma (1922-1930) and Susianna Buma Smits (1927-2020). There is a photo of the joint headstone of Adam and Jennie.

The 1900 U.S. census shows the Post family living in Orange City: Watsche, head (45, an oil peddler), wife Eka (42), and children Susie (12), Jennie (10), Peter (9), Sarah (7), Sadie (6), Nellie (4), and Jamie (1).

The Sioux County marriage register for 1909-1910 has groom Adam Buma, age 27, resident of Rock Valley, a farmer, born in Malsum, Netherlands, parents Heilbe[?] Buma and Akke v.d. Meer; bride Jennie Post, age 20, resident of Rock Valley, born in Orange City, parents Watze Post and Eike [or Eske?] Kooymans; married in Rock Valley January 6, 1910.

Following her husband’s death, the 1940 U.S. census shows her living in Bellflower, Los Angeles County (and in the same place in 1935) with daughters Alice (19), Clara (15), and Susiana (13); Alice is doing housework in a private home.
