Barbara Jeane Bruinsma Hanisch, age 69, passed away Dec. 26, at her home in Upland, CA. Barb fought sarcoma cancer for eight years and died of complications from that disease. Barb was born May 21, 1945, in Le Mars the daughter of Albertus Bruinsma and Dorothy Addink Bruinsma. Barb grew up in Sioux Center and worked at Kinsey Elementary School. She moved to Des Moines and worked for the Iowa Des Moines National bank, (part of Norwest and now Well Fargo) where she met her husband to be James Hanisch. They lived in Urbandale, Omaha, Milwaukee, and for the past eighteen years in southern California. Barb remained close to family and friends in Sioux Center, especially enjoying her 50th high school reunion in 2017. She was an avid reader and corresponded with her many friends via email and text. Barb is survived by her husband Charles Hanisch; daughter Elizabeth Hanisch; and grandson James Hanisch. Barb asked that any memorial be made to Children’s Miracle Network or to Elizabeth Hanisch’s Team Barb of Cycle for Survival (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research).
