Obituary:
After several months of suffering, the death took away my beloved wife and caring mother from my side on the 5th of August 09th. Johanna Berendina Peelen, 33 years old, leaving me two children, who are still too young to realize the loss that also struck them. Though deeply grieved, I mourn not as those who have no promise, because I may believe that they are now in the rest that remains for the people of God. Give the Lord grace to seek him and pray his order, and pour the balsam of consolation into the wound which he made. I hereby also express my deepest gratitude for the many expressions of condolences, and for the faithful help shown by so many during the day of illness. Mrs. John Postma is no more, Past Thursday afternoon at half past twelve she fell asleep softly and calmly, to awaken, as she felt confidently made herself, in a better country, where no sorrow or suffering is known. This death can again cause us to think seriously. She seemed to be a healthy woman, in the strength of her life, she was now about five months ago, and very shortly, because both her parents had died, attacked that terrible disease, the flying consumption, which in such a short time tore her out of the center of her family, where, in our human judgment, she could still be so hard to be missed. Two children, almost too young to face their loss, continue to stare at her with their heartbroken husband. May we be staring in hope or a blissful reunion. The physical remains was taken to the grave on Monday afternoon from the 2nd Ref Church, where a large crowd of friends and interested people attended the funeral service. Most of the business places were closed in sympathy.

Research note: From a report on line (by others) Johanna Berendina Peelen was born 6 Feb 1876 Otterlo Ede Gelderland, Netherlands died 1909 Sioux Center IA. Parents were Jacob Peelen 1841-1908 and Metje Alofs, one of the two children was Reynold Postma 1899.
