James Den Hartog - Funeral at 0. C.
Funeral services for James Den Hartog who passed away Friday, May 11 , were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home of his son
Cornie Den Hartog, and at the First Christian Ref. Church Orange City, of which he was a member. Rev. A. Dusseljee officiated.
Mr, Den Hartog was born Feb. 5, 1870 at Pella, Iowa. He came to Orange City with his parents as pioneers at the age of nine. He was a lifelong
resident here, Except for 12 years which he spent in Washington and Minnesota.
He was married in Oct. 1892 to Josiena Den Beste, who preceded him in death in 1947. Mr
and Mrs. Den Hartog were the parents of 11 children, three passing away in Infancy. One
son, James E., passed away in 1943.
Survivors include 6 sons: Henry J., Cornelius, John, William and Arthur of O.C.; Elmer of Hawarden; and 1 daughter Adeline (Mrs. Hubert Visser)of Brooten, Minn.; 17 grandchildren
and 29 great grandchildren. Six grandsons served
as pallbearers: Wilbert, Paul, Clarence, James, Larry Den Hartog and Kenneth Visser. Interment
was made in the O.C. Cemetery.
