Wallace "Wally" Van Berkum. 68. of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, January 24, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Services were at First Reformed Church In Rock Valley on Friday, with the Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery.

Van Berkum was born on December 3,1926, In Sioux Center, the son of John and Anna (Van Wyhe) Van Berkum. He married Wesselina Van Hattem on April 22, 1949. in Rock Valley. The couple lived at Rock Valley where he worked for Valley Chick and Feed, Van Voorst Transfer and Farmers Elevator. In 1971, they moved to the Luverne, Minnesota, area and later to Windom, Minnesota, where he worked for All-American Freight. In 1978, they reture d to Rock Valley, where he worked at the Boyden-Hull Elementary School at Boyden until 1993, when he began driving a bus for Hope Haven School at Rock Valley.

Survivors Include his wife; a son and his wife, Dennis and Jennifer of Fargo, North Dakota; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Ronald Koldenhoven of Rock Valley; three brothers, Lawrence of Rock Valley, Alvin of Orange City and Edwin of Inwood; a sister, Alice Prins of Orange City; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, James, Garold and Raymond.
