Dave Corbin Killed In South Dakota Crash
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 17, in Carthage, South Dakota for David Corbin, 34, who was killed in a car accident in South Dakota on Saturday, August 14.
Corbin, Hawarden Elementary School teacher for seven years and his nephew, Mark Rosteyne, 18, of Carthage, South Dakota, were both killed instantly in the crash. According to Washabaugh County Sheriff Arlo Madsen, the vehicle driven by Corbin struck a bridge abutment about 23 miles south of Kadoka about 8 a.m.
Funeral services, held in the Carthage Municipal Auditorium, were a double service for both victims. Pall bearers from Hawarden included Arvin Kitchenmaster, Larry Bauder, Bill Buryanek, Dean Martinson, Mark Witt and Kerry Kircher.
Corbin was born in Carthage, South Dakota to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Corbin. He was a graduate of Dakota State College at Madison and had received his Masters degree from the University of South Dakota. Corbin was in the Air Force for two years before coming to Hawarden to teach. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
In commenting on the tragedy, Arvin Kitchenmaster, principal of the Hawarden Elementary School where Corbin taught said, "He was a very active teacher, well known and well thought of in the community."
