Clara Van Engelenhoven
Clara Rebecca Van Engelenhoven, 92, of Orange City died Monday, November 25, at Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility. Memorial services was Friday at American Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.Mrs. Van Engelenhoven was born March 20, 1910, in Pella, the daughter of Teunis and Lucy (Vander Linden) Plette. She was raised in Pella where she attended Central College. She married the Rev. Everet Van Engelenhoven in Pella on August 14, 1933. The couple served churches in Alton and in Fulton, Illinois, and founded Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon.
They moved to Orange City in 1949. In later years they resided at Pioneer Memorial Home and Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community. He died July 1, 2000, in Orange City. She moved to Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility in April 2001.
She was a homemaker and helpmate to her husband as they pastured churches. In addition, she often traveled with him when he represented Northwestern College. She was a member of American Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's activities in earlier years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting .and music and liked to watch sports on television.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Lee and Audrey Van Engelenhoven of Lakeland, Florida, and Paul and Vernie Van Engelenhoven and David and Marilyn Van Engelenhoven, all of Orange City; nine grandchildren; 19 grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson; a great-grandson; and a sister, Bertha Rozeboom. Memorials are being directed to the Orange City Public Library
