Lela Van Heuvelen
Lela Van Heuvelen, age 62, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon. Funeral services will be Friday, December 29, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Lela Van Heuvelen was born on December 26, 1944, in rural Ireton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Gerritt and Cynthia (Mulder) Van Ravenswaay. She lived her youth in Peterson, Iowa, and Sheldon, Iowa, where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Lauren Van Heuvelen of Sheldon, Iowa, on February 14, 1967, in Sheldon. Lela was a homemaker, and for many years, the bookkeeper for their business, Hy-Way Body Shop, in Sheldon. Lauren died on March 23, 2001. Lela enjoyed collecting dolls and antiques. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in 1988. As her family saw her struggle day by day, she was growing in her faith, from which she received her strength to go forward. She
leaned not on herself, but on the Holy Spirit to give her strength and peace, which was a great
testimony to her family. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son: Lyle Van Heuvelen of Sheldon, IA; her mother-in- law: Alice Van Heuvelen of Sheldon, IA; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Madeline and
Peter Leo Vander Zwaag of Orange City, IA, Henrietta and Willis Bait of Sheldon, IA, Gertrude and Cort Victoria of Sheldon, IA; sisters-in-law: Wilmina Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center, IA, Cheryl Garcia of Bagdad, AZ, and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Lauren; her son: Larry Van Heuvelen; her parents.
