Fred Van Engen
Fred Van Engen, 73, of Hull died Tuesday, November 5, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 9, al Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Aldon Kuiper officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery.Van Engen was born November 21, 1917, in Doon. He graduated from Western Christian Academy in 1935 and Northwestern College in 1937. He taught school in the rural area for two years and then served about four years in the Army during World War II.
He married Margaret Vander Schaaf May 13, 1943, In Hull. He operated Van's Meat Market In Hull for 20 years. He later held several other positions, including driving students for Hope Haven School. He retired In 1988.
He was a charter member of Hope Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory. He was a member and past commander of Wegman-Koele Post 380, American Legion.
Survivors Include his wife; a son, Jared Van Engen of Boise, Idaho: a daughter, Janice Richards of Boise; three sisters, Ella Guerink of Woodville, Wisconsin, Jane Van Someren of Baldwin, Wisconsin, and Alvina Van Someren of Edina, Minnesota; a brother, Leo of Escondido, California; and four grandchildren.
