EDWARD VANDER VEGTE
Edward Vander Vegte, 73, of Orange City, died Friday, June 25 in a Rochester, Minn, hospital. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. John T. Ebbers officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.Mr. Vander Vegte was born June 24, 1909, in the Netherlands. He married Elvina E. Kempers June 30, 1937, in Sioux Center. He was founder of Sioux Transport Co. which he operated for 38 years. He was past honorary president of Sioux Tank Line Inc. and a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon. He served on the Christian school board and on the board of trustees of Dordt College.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Don of Omaha, Stan of Maxwell and Bob of Minneapolis; six daughters, Mrs. Walter (Joyce) De Blouw of Redlands, Calif., Mrs. Rodney (Phyllis) Vande Griend of Orange City, Mrs. Mel(Darlene) Obbihk of Sioux City, Mrs. Leroy.(Judy) Schwartz of Alton, Mrs. Arlin (Elaine) Beltman of Granville and Miss Shirley of Aurora, Colo.; three brothers, Herman of Hull, Gerrit of Orange City and Dick of Phoenix; four sisters, Mrs. Dick (Minnie) Langstraat, Miss Gertrude and Mrs. Elmer (Johanna) Reinders, all of Orange City and Mrs. Dick (Antoinette) Van Gelder of Creston and 24 grandchildren.
