Bernard J. Ahlers, 88, of Granville died Saturday, September 9, at Orange City Health System in Orange City. Services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Granville.
Ahlers was born September 9, 1918, in rural Granville, the son of Herman and Josephine (Koch) Ahlers. He was raised in the Granville area and received his education in both the rural school system and St. Mary's Academy in Alton. He was then engaged in farming with his brothers south of Granville and retired on the farm in 1985.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His life was farming.
Survivors include five brothers, Arnold, Urban and Edward, all of Granville, Vincent, and Clarence and his wife Norma, all of Remsen; two sisters, Rita Theisen of Canby, Minnesota, and Clara Ahlers of Granville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen, as a young child; two brothers, Herman and Raymond; two half-sisters, Catharine Steffes and her husband Mike and Agatha Steffes and her husband Harry; and a brother-in-law, Reynold Theisen.
