Edward Van Gorp, 74, Pella, died Jan. 17,1993 at his home after a short illness of cancer. Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. J. Mark Beach officiated. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Edward was born March 28,1918 in Mahaska County, east of Pella, the son of John M. and Minnie Blom Van Gorp. He was educated in the Wheatgrove Country Grade School in the vicinity where he was born. Ed continued to reside on the family farm and on Feb. 10, 1943 was united in marriage with Edith Marie Newendorp at her parents' farm home near Leighton. They farmed all their working years and retired in 1984 at which time they moved into Pella. Ed spent his retirement years fishing and bowling. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella where he had served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife Edith; three children and their spouses, Ethel and Irvin Van Rheenen and Dennis and Mary Van Gorp, all of Pella, and Nancy and Comelis Venema of Orange City; nine grandchildren, Carol and her husband Galen Redshaw, John and Chad Van Rheenen; Jill and Daniel Van Gorp; Joseph, Charissa, Rachel and Carolyn Venema; two sisters, Mathilda and her husband Gary J. Vermeer and Mrs. Evalena (Arie) Roozeboom, all of Pella; a brother, John Van Gorp and his wife. Dorothy of Pella; and another brother-in-law, Everett N. Meinders of Leighton. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Gertrude, Mrs. Everett N. Meinders
