Favette "Faye" Black - Age 86

Favette "Faye" Grace Black was born on November 15, 1926 in Sutherland, Iowa. She went to school through the eighth grade in Sutherland and completed her nurse’s aide training at a school in Spencer in the 1970's.

On June 22, 1943, Faye was united in marriage to Edgar Black in Rapid City, South Dakota. They had eight children born to them. In 1945, they moved to Spencer, Iowa and stayed for almost forty years. Faye worked as a nurses aide for nearly thirty years at the Longhouse in Spencer, Iowa. Her and Edgar would go square dancing near Lake Park on Saturday nights when they were living in Spencer.

In 1983, they moved to Oakland, Iowa and she became employed at the Oakland Manor in Oakland.

She was an excellent cook and would cook and bake frequently, sharing cinnamon rolls and cakes with her family and friends. She had an extensive doll collection - with over 850 dolls cataloged and organized. She knew where and from whom each doll came from.

They were in a card club with their close friends and neighbors and would get together and play pitch or 500. She was a member of the Eagles Club in Spencer and liked classic country music.

Faye spent part of the year with her daughters in Virginia and part with Pam in Iowa. It was at Pam’s home that she died on Thursday, January 17, 2013 having attained the age of eighty-six years, two months, and two days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edgar, an infant son; and sisters Shirley and Leone.

She is survived by her children: Juanita and her husband Stanley Herzenach of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Pamella Alspach of Goodell, Iowa, Charles "Chuck" Black and his wife Barrie of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Favella Baxter of Hugo, Minnesota, Loretta Journey of Chesapeake, Virginia, Carol Black of Hancock, Iowa, and Jackie Doe of Chesapeake, Virginia; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters Audrey and Cleone of Odessa, Texas and Thelma of Houston, Texas; other family members and friends.

Pastor Eric Meissner officiated the 10:00 am funeral service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Monday, January 21, 2013. Honorary casket bearers were: Richard Adams, Virgil Hildebrand, Corey Doe, Justin Doe, Justin McKay, and Eddie Reinders. Interment was held in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, Iowa with Larry Jacobsen, Dwayne Hemminger, Stanley Herzenach, Tommy Adams, Pete Phillips, Chad Noethe, Mike Krueger, Danny Black, Eric Wenzel, Mike Amundson, and Denny Norgaard serving as casket bearers.
