Jervaise N. Bintz - Age 83

Jervaise Nettie Bintz was born November 18, 1929 to Charlie and Viola (McHenry) Grap on the family farm west of Persia, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Persia, Iowa. She graduated from Persia High School with the Class of 1948.

After high school, she began teaching and would ride her horse to the country school. She also taught Sunday school. She met Herbert Bintz and the two were united in marriage on November 11, 1950 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Persia. Four sons were born to this union: Eugene, David, Jeffrey, and John.

Jervaise began working from home as soon as the children were born. She not only took care of the tasks in the home, but outside as well. She raised chickens, ducks, cows, and hogs, and she knew how to drive the tractor. She had a huge garden and was great at cooking and canning items she grew at home. She was a member of the Friendly Links Club in the Minden area, the United Church of Christ in Minden, and the UCC Women’s Fellowship Circle.

She and Herbert moved to the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in March of 2011 and this is where she died on March 20, 2013 having attained the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 2 days. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Herbert; her brothers, Donovan and Norman; sisters-in-law, Leeta Grap and Venita Grap; and brother-in-law, Richard Powell.

She is survived by her sons: Eugene Bintz of Oakland, Iowa, David Bintz of Hancock, Iowa, Jeffrey Bintz and his wife Jody of Treynor, Iowa, and John Bintz and his wife Susan of Bloomfield, New Mexico; a grandson, Joshua Bintz and his wife Christy of Omaha, Nebraska; her brothers, Lynn Grap and Arlon Grap both of Persia, Iowa; sisters, Nancy Powell of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Mary Beaman and her husband Howard of Harlan, Iowa and CharLes Kemmish and her husband Kenneth of Crescent, Iowa; sister-in-law Carmella Grap of Portsmouth, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Rev. Earlin Shanno officiated the 10:30 am funeral service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa on Monday, March 25, 2013. Burial was held in the Minden Cemetery in Minden with Rodney Grap, Mike Grap, Roger Grap, Matt Powell, Chuck Matthews, and Mark Matthews serving as casket bearers.
