Funeral services: Monday, April 11, 2005, Irwin United Methodist Church, Irwin, IA; Rev. Keith Pals officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, IA.

Survived by: Husband of 54 years, Allan Thompson of Irwin, IA; mother, Leona Marie (nee Andreasen) Wiese of Manilla, IA; daughters, Kathleen Goans of Kirkman, IA, and Lanette (spouse, Tom) Sawyer of Idaho Springs, CO; sons, Craig (spouse, Dianna) Thompson and Danny Thompson, both of Irwin, IA; sister, Ladelle (spouse, Orlando) Hanson of Manilla, IA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Father, Carl Fredrick Wiese; brother, Allan Wiese; grandson, Joseph Goans

Education: graduated from Irwin (IA) High School, Class of 1948; attended college for 1 year

Marriage: Allan Ray Thompson, June 25, 1950, United Methodist Church, Irwin, IA

Employment: After marriage in 1950, farmed with spouse until 1972; early 1950’s: taught country school near Irwin, IA; was then employed by the Irwin Locker for 23 years; worked for 10 years at Shelby County Monument Company in Harlan, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: active member, Irwin United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Member, American Legion Auxiliary; member, the Jefferson Community Club; member, Irwin Library Board and Club; member, the Polk Improvement Club; member, Shelby County Cancer Board. A patriotic lady, she sold American flags and promoted Avenues of Flags in area cemeteries. In 2004, was honored as Farmer Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company’s “Home Town Hero.” Lyla enjoyed taking photographs, sewing, and camping.
