Died: June 7, 2005, Council Bluffs, IA

Funeral services: Saturday, June 11, 2005, Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA; Pastor Bernard Daiker and Michael Costello officiated. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, IA.

Survived by: Daughters, Elsie Baker of Council Bluffs, IA, and Betty Paulsen of Atlantic, IA; son, Robert (spouse, Ellen) Jensen of Tennant, IA; daughter-in-law, Frances Jensen of Harlan, IA; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; many friends and relatives in Denmark and the United States

Predeceased by: Parents, Christian and Jensine Neilsen-Hjornet; husband of 66 years, Nels Jensen (deceased Dec. 21, 1990); sons, Carl Jensen and Elmer Jensen; daughter, Ellen Kjeldgaard; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren

Education: attended school from age 7 to 14 in Denmark

Marriage: Nels Jensen, October 17, 1924, Harlan, IA. (Met when she was 17 in Denmark; Nels moved to the U.S., and in 1923, she followed. Together with spouse, they became U.S. citizens on Sept. 11, 1959, and Kirsten took the legal name of Kathrine Jensen.)

Employment: After her marriage to Nels, they began farming, living in the Avoca and Hancock, IA, areas but moving often for better farming opportunities. In 1959, they retired from farming and began doing furniture repair and upholstering.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA. In her leisure time, Kathrine gardened and fished. Kathrine also enjoyed handwork, including quilting, sewing, knitting, tatting, and crocheting, and she donated many afghans to church fundraisers. She liked growing flowers and was a member of the local Garden Club, and the Avoca Journal-Herald named her “Homemaker of the Week” in 1975. She and Nels made several trips back to Denmark to visit family.
