Funeral services: Wednesday, June 21, 2006, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, IA; Pastor Ron Rasmussen officiated. Burial was in the Jacksonville Cemetery in Jacksonville, IA.

Survived by: Husband of 56 years, Lyle Knudsen of Harlan, IA; son, Dan (spouse, Lorie) Knudsen of Harlan, IA; daughter, Beth (spouse, Howard) Lebrecht of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sister, Dixie Larson of Harlan, IA; grandchildren, Stefan Knudsen, Gregory Knudsen, Katrina Knudsen, Kyle Lebrecht, and Sara Lebrecht; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Carl Francis and Lula Mae (nee Sheets) Johnson; sisters, Mary Thomson, Lucille Pearson, and Martha Larimore

Education: graduated from Harlan High School, Class of 1943; attended Teacher’s Training in Carroll, IA

Marriage: Harry Knudsen, June 11, 1950, Bethel Baptist Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: after receiving her teacher’s certificate, she taught at country schools Jackson #4 and #9, and at Monroe #1 and #4. After her marriage, she was a substitute teacher for Special Education classes in the Harlan Community School District.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA, serving in the women’s circle; member, Tuesday Chatter Club; member, Happy Home Club; member, Shelby County Rural Teacher’s Association; member of two sewing clubs; active with the Shelby County Fair and 4-H, and, in 1999, received the Shelby County Hall of Fame Award. Was a Tupperware dealer for over 45 years. Additionally, Helen baked and decorated cakes for all occasions. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, playing cards, and raising flowers; loved entertaining guests and spending time with family.
