Employment: After leaving school, Buster worked on the family farm (1937-1942). During World War II, he was employed at a munitions plant in Omaha. He also helped his sister in her home. After the war, Buster sold Ness products door-to-door. Early in the 1950’s, he once again lived on the family farm and kept cows; he also worked in Jacksonville as a telephone switchboard operator. Later, he was employed as a custodian by Peterson Brothers in Jacksonville and E.M. Christensen Motors in Harlan. Because of ill health, he retired in 1998 in Harlan.
Hobbies/Interests: Member, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, IA. Enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch and Tick; also liked to spend time gathering, cleaning, and selling walnuts.
