Funeral services: Thursday, April 12, 2007, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA; Pastors Steve Chellew and Heather Ploen officiated. Burial of ashes took place in the Harlan Cemetery.

Survivors: Wife of 42 years, Leora Kirk of Harlan, IA; sons, Ricky (spouse, Kaomi) Sorensen of Harlan, IA, and Daryl (spouse, Mary) Sorensen of Tempe, AZ; daughter, Donna (spouse, Bob) Van Leuven of Mesa, AZ; brothers, Uffe Kirk, Viggo Kirk, Helge Kirk, and Frode Kirk, all of Denmark; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives in Denmark; other friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Svend and Guldborg (nee Holm) Kirk; sister, Gudrun Johansen; brother, Borge Kirk; son, Galen Sorensen.

Education: educated in Denmark

Military service: During World War II, Olav served in the Danish Underground. He immigrated to the United States in 1948, and became a U.S. citizen on April 11, 1955.

Marriage: Leora Arlene Troll, July 18, 1964, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: Olav farmed his aunt’s land and worked as a carpenter. Was employed several years at the pork plant in Harlan, IA, until it closed. He then was employed as a handyman, doing odd jobs.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA. He was a good artist and loved to paint, as well as fish, play bingo, garden, camp, dance, play Solitaire and work crossword puzzles.
