Funeral services: Tuesday, May 29, 2007, Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA; Pastor Dennis Reich officiated. Military rites provided by the American Legion Post #227. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, IA.

Education: attended Pleasant #7 country school; graduated from Avoca (IA) High School, Class of 1952

Military service: 1956: enlisted U. S. Army; received medical discharge later that year

Marriage: JoAnn Johannsen, Nov. 30, 1958, Walnut, IA

Employment: after completing high school, he worked with his father on the farm, and in 1954, began working at the Conoco Gas Station in Avoca, IA. After his marriage in 1958, Willis was employed by Stempel Implement in Oakland, IA, and then formed a farming partnership with his father. He purchased the family farm in 1984, and the couple retired in 1999, and built a home in Avoca.

Hobbies/Interests: lifelong member, Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA; had served on the Church Council for 7 years, including 3 of them as president; member of the choir since high school; member, Men’s Trinity Breakfast Club; had served on several committees within the congregation. Also, was a member of American Legion Post #227; had served as a township trustee in Avoca; had served as president of the Sports Booster Club, Avoca. Member, County Extension Council; Avoca Good Guys volunteer.

Willis enjoyed golfing, loved to play cards, and listen and dance to polka music. He and JoAnn tried to attend all of their grandchildren’s activities. They enjoyed camping and spending summers at Okoboji.
