Education: attended schools in Harlan, IA, graduating from Harlan High School, Class of 1943. Attended Iowa State University and Westminster College in Missouri; graduated with a law degree from University of Iowa in 1950.
Military service: U.S. Navy; during WWII, Freeman served on the U.S.S. Cronin in the Philippines.
Marriage: Virginia Mae McLaughlin, Feb. 16, 1952, Des Moines, IA
Employment: After a move to Edina, MN, in 1962, Freeman practiced law for a brief period, and then made a career change to that of an insurance claims adjuster with Allstate Insurance Company; he eventually retired from that company.
Hobbies/Interests: Freeman pledged Beta Theta Pi Fraternity while at Westminster College, and remained a member until his death. He was an avid history and Civil War buff, and enjoyed collecting books. In addition, he had a passion for genealogy, and both he and Virginia studied their family histories and kept thorough records. Freeman was an Iowa Hawkeye fan who enjoyed hockey, camping and fishing. He was known to his friends and family as an intelligent, kind and generous man.
