Survived by: Husband of 64 years, Jack Carmichael of Newton, IA; daughters, Claudia (spouse, Rusty) James of Des Moines, IA, and Kathleen (spouse, John) Crist of Raymore, MO; son, Jeff (spouse, Connie) Carmichael of Newton, IA; sister, Lois Stitch of St. Louis, MO; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Education: graduated from Manilla (IA) High School, Class of 1941; attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, IA, for 1 year
Marriage: Jack Wendell Carmichal, Oct. 10, 1944, Miami, FL
Employment: after her year at Iowa State Teachers College, she taught country school at Cuppy’s Grove School; after meeting her future husband (whose family she was boarding a room from), she taught first and second grades in Tennant (IA) the next year. After their marriage and Jack’s return from World War II, they raised their family in Jack’s family home. Helen worked as a nurse’s aide at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital starting in 1960, and received her LPN degree in 1967; she continued in the health care field until she retired in 1987.
Hobbies/Interests: Member, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, IA, and a former member of the Altamont Baptist Church in rural Shelby Co., IA.; excellent cook and enjoyed sewing; also liked to spend time doing china painting with her husband.
