Funeral services: Friday, April 24, 2009, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, IA; Pastor Jon Benson of Saint John Lutheran Church, Council Bluffs, officiated. Burial at Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, IA.

Survived by: Sister, Marilyn Holdren of Harlan, IA; children, Connie (spouse, Jerry) Paul of Woodland Park, CO, Diane (spouse, Jim) Friend of Urbandale, IA, Roger (spouse, Mary) Burmeister of Council Bluffs, IA, and David (spouse, Kim) Burmeister of Harlan; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends

Education: attended school in Cuppy’s Grove for 8 years, then Harlan (IA) High School for 3 years; graduated from high school in Oakland, CA, Class of 1938

Marriage: Alvin Henry Burmeister, Dec. 28, 1943, Harlan, IA

Employment: After graduation, employed by Dr. Maassen for 5 years; farmed with spouse after marriage in 1943; after retirement, they spent winters in Kissimmee, Florida with friends

Hobbies/Interests: Blanche’s life was blessed with the happiness brought by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to play games and teaching her grandkids how to play 21 with pennies; she often hosted sleepovers for the grandkids as well, with late-night TV watching, fun snacks and lots of card games. She always had candy on hand for them. She also enjoyed crocheting and cross stitching; she loved lilacs and lily of the valley, and had geraniums and snapdragons in her garden; she also loved to mow the lawn with her lawn tractor. She canned, made fresh cucumber and onion salad, and baked wonderful rolls. Blanche enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, and doing search-a-word puzzles. She often played a small organ in their home, and lways dreamed of having a Lincoln Town Car. Blanche possessed a great sense of humor, with teasing comments, a wink and a grin.
