Mable Goldie Baker, daughter of Thomas and Clara Flick Baker, was born January 18, 1884 near Diagonal and passed away May 4, 1958, at Winterset IA at 74 years of age.
She graduated from high school at Knowlton, IA and taught school for several years in Ringgold County.She was married March 16, 1903 to James Solomon Butt. Nine children were born to this union with three of the daughters, Hazel, Gladys, and Alta and a son, Floyd preceding her in death.
She joined the Baptist church in Knowlton as a young girl and later transferred her membership to the Methodist Church at Peru, IA.
Her whole life was marked by a gentle lovingkindndess to her family and to her friends. She maintained a helpful interest in all those people whose path crossed hers and cherished the many friends she made through the years. She bore the years of suffering and ill health with cheerful patience and her interest in her children and their families continued until the hour of her passing.
Mr & Mrs. Butt and their family formerly resided in the Knowlton and Shannon City communities and in more recent years have made their home in Peru IA and at different times in Oregon state.
Surviving are her husband, one son, Arthur of Sunnyvale CA, four daughters: Clara Moore of Newberg OR, Anna Travis of Peru IA, Lena Howard of Winterset, and Edna Andrews of Portland OR. There are 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren
She is also survived by three brothers, James of Iola KS, Willard of Diagonal, and Harold of Newberg OR, and also by two sisters, Fleta Duncan of Mitchell SD, and Flossie Townsend of Clearfield.
