November 20, 1942 ~ January 10, 2014On November 20, 1942, James and Ruby (Lynch) Worthington, and older siblings Laverne, Helen, and Ed, welcomed Judy and John Thomas into the home. John attended school in Maloy and Mt. Ayr, leaving school at the age of 17 years old to join the United States Navy in 1959. Upon leaving the Navy in 1962, John finally found his nitch when he bought the Southside Bar & Grill in Mt. Ayr. John sold his bar and moved to Oklahoma where he devoted himself to wife, Jerri.
In 1992, John and Jerri moved from Arkansas back to Ringgold County. Finally settling in Kellerton, John and Jerri bought and operated the café in Kellerton from 1993 to 2001, making new friends and reuniting with old friends.
In John's spare time, he enjoyed visiting with people, hunting, and fishing with family and friends, mowing yards, and gardening.
John passed away at his home in Kellerton on January 10, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Judy, Helen, Galen, and Laverne.
Surviving from the home is his wife Jerri; Pete, Bandit, Doc, and Rowdy; children John, II and wife Shawnda, Desiree and husband Darrell, Charla and husband Bill, Tory and wife Roxanne, Lenzy, and Jada and husband TJ; 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; siblings Ed, Delbert and companion Julia, Jimmy and wife Connie, Dennis, Bob and wife Arlene; special nephew Gaylen; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials are to the family.
Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating.
Casket bearers included Bob Worthington, Gale Worthington, Doug Collier, Eric Walter, Tony Ellis and Randy Fox.
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Glendenning, Leroy Wood, John Menter, Dennis Pyland and Brett Yoder.
Military rites were by Kellerton Post #676 and U.S. Navy Honors Unit.
Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
Following the committal services at Maple Row Cemetery, there was be soup and sandwiches at the Kellerton Community Center provided by the Women's Auxiliary of Kellerton Post #676.
