OBITUARY ~ HAROLD KEITH "SHORT" PARKER
February 02, 1931 ~ December 10, 2013

Harold "Short" PARKER, 82, of Diagonal, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013. at the Lenox Care Center in Lenox. Services were Friday, December 13, 2013, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of Highways 25 and 34 in Creston. Rev. Tim MAXA officiated. A private burial will be at a later date. Flag presentation was by the Creston V.F.W. Post 1797. Memorials are to Hospice of Central Iowa or to the family. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.

Howard Keith PARKER was born February 2, 1931 in Redding, Iowa to Paul Lawrence PARKER and Mary Katherine (OLNEY) PARKER. He was educated in Clearfield area country schools. Harold served in the U.S. Army as an engineer for two years, stationed in France during the Korean Conflict.

On December 3, 1955, Harold was united in marriage to Alice Faye DUDLEY in Creston, Iowa. They settled on a farm northwest of Diagonal. Harold farmed all of his married life and was a welder. First, he was a welder in Lenox, Iowa at Tote Systems and then at Rosceo Brown of Lenox, where he made machinery. Later Harold worked at Van Mark, retiring in 1995. Harold loved to fly. He built an airplane and modified others. He loved to read and also loved country music. Harold was a former member of the VFW of Lenox and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Harold is survived by his wife, Alice PARKER of Diagonal, Iowa; his children, two sons, Greg PARKER (wife Linda) of Skidmore, Missouri and Doug PARKER (wife Marty) of Worthy, Missouri; two daughters, Tammy UTTERBACK (husband Greg) of Lenox, Iowa, and Sherry PARKER (husband Greg BROKAW) of Prescott, Iowa; two brothers, John PARKER (wife Marsha) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jerry PARKER of Creston, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Alice HARDISTY of Texas and Hazel RIEDESEL of Altoona, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sue PARKER of Illinois; seven grand children, Steven FASTENOW (wife Jessica), Jodi LANG (husband Neil), Lanee FRANK (husband Paul), Chris PARKER (wife Tory), Rosanna GEORGETTI (husband Justin), Nici JOHNSON and Nicholaus FLETCHALL; two step-grandchildren, Catherine YOUNG (husband Kole) and Jennifer UTTERBACK and husband, and eight great-grandchildren.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary PARKER; a daughter, Sheila FLETCHALL in 1984; a brother, Jim PARKER; and two sisters, Linda SMITH and Ardella JONES.
